The Standards – The Great Americain Songbook
Often initially composed for the Broadway musicals of the 1930s, 40s and 50s, the great Jazz standards, made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis… form the heart of the more than 200 titles in Shades of Blue’s repertory.
Contemporary Jazz
In the 1960s Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter… take Jazz in a new direction. Then, in the 1980s, musicians branch out even farther, mixing Jazz with differentstyles of music (Funk, Rock, World Music…).
Contemporary Jazz freely integrates a wide variety of influences creating a modern melange, both lively and elegant.
Shades of Blue interprets the great instrumental hits by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Kenny Garrett… and the songs of Diana Krall, Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum, and others.

Rémy’s story :
Winning a Fulbright Scholarship allowed me to study for one year in the US at the Jazz school of my choice.
I chose the New School in New York City because I knew that I would meet the most exciting musicians currently on the scene, as well assome of the legends of Jazz history.
I couldn’t believe it when they handed me a list of my professors: Joe Chambers (drummer for Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson), Vic Juris (guitarist for Dave Liebman, Michel Legrand), Reggie Workman (double bassist for John Coltrane, Art Blackey, Wayne Shorter).
It was Reggie who made my American dream a reality. He was so happy with our ensemble that he asked us to open for him at the Jazz Festival of Long Island. He also found us other gigs around New York. I’ll never forget his generosity and his desire to share his knowledge with us. He often talked about the devotion John Coltrane or Art Blakely had to their music and to the people they shared it with – including the public. Andhe encouraged us to be generous in turn, of course!
